Maelin Henge

Maelmin Henge is a modern reconstruction of a henge monument located near the village of Milfield in Northumberland’s Till Valley.

The area where the contemporary monument stands was home to several Neolithic and early Bronze Age henge monuments approximately 5,000 years ago.

The new monument is inspired by excavations of a nearby site from this period.

It was built in the spring of 2000.

We saw beautiful butterflies as we walked through Maelin meadow.

We arrived at Flodden Field. Here, 6,000 Scots, including their king, and 2,000 English lost their lives in brutal fighting. I feel proud of the bravery on both sides, but I am also angry at the Catholic Church for inciting the conflict.

The smell of roses in the car park was calming.

The beach at Spital in Berwick-on-Tweed was beautiful. I love how peaceful it feels there.

When I visit these places, their open, quiet spaces inspire awe in me rather than leaving me feeling empty.

Looking past the horizon through a mind that feels disconnected.

We drove quickly back to the Scottish Borders, since long trips at the end of a journey can be exhausting.
