Holy Island

Leonie and Charlie set out together, driving toward the Holy Island.

We reached Lindisfarne at 2pm, about an hour after the tide had gone out and cleared the road. Charlie stopped so I could take some photos of our arrival. Looking back, I almost wish we hadn’t stopped, since I ended up with a tick bite from the long grass.

We had just two hours of daylight left.

We stopped halfway to the Isle to take a picture, and right away, other cars pulled up next to us. A group of Italians jumped out and started snapping dozens of photos before we even got out of our truck. The £6 parking fee really annoyed me—I would rather have argued about it than pay the fine. If you go, make sure to check the tide times before your visit!

After we bought a bottle of mead, we headed to the estuary and watched the sunset on our faces. Last time we visited, we walked east, but tonight we chose to go west.

We also watched the sun set over the abbey.

We had a beer at the Anchor and Crown, then took one last photo before leaving the Island.

I really enjoyed visiting this place and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great experience.
