I changed the CMOS battery in my XPS laptop today.

As expected, the battery is not showing the correct power level in this computer’s operating system. This usually happens when the battery is a generic replacement.

The CMOS battery is located at the top right of the laptop’s main battery. You can remove the old CMOS battery without taking out the main battery.

The laptop kept losing track of the hard drive and the BIOS clock. First, I’ll fix this issue, then I plan to replace the M2 SSD. Both parts usually last about five years. This laptop is eight years old. I’m running Linux, specifically Debian Trixie, which I think is the best. The laptop came with an Arabic keyboard, but the computer recognises it as Japanese.
