We drove into the Craik Forest to shear, worm, and spray several ewes and lambs. The large flies were especially aggressive that day.
There are three awful goats that really dislike our flock, and I’m pretty sure our flock feels the same way about them.
The flock moved quickly and remained alert, making shepherding in the forest much more difficult.
After trying a few more times, we finally got all the sheep into the pen.
First, we treated the lambs with a drench to control worms.
Charlie cleaned the lambs and checked them for maggots simultaneously.
This is the last mother ewe to be sheared. Every sheep has been hand-sheared this year.
Charlie thinks we missed this ewe last year because her fleece was in such poor condition that it couldn’t be spun.
We left the Craik forest and headed toward Woodburn.
Now that I know where all the potholes are, driving down the forest track isn’t a problem any more.
When we got back to Woodburn, we treated the herd out in the paddock.
Stumpy lamb is very friendly and has become our favourite cade lamb this year.
