Lindisfarne Castle, built in the 16th century, stands on Holy Island near Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland, England. Sir Edwin Lutyens made significant changes to the castle in 1901. You can reach the island from the mainland at low tide using a causeway.

The castle sits in what was once a tense border region between England and Scotland, and the area often faced Viking attacks.

In the eighteenth century, Jacobite rebels briefly occupied the castle before soldiers from Berwick recaptured it. The rebels were imprisoned but escaped by digging their way out, then hid near Bamburgh Castle for 9 days before fleeing. In later years, the castle served as a coastguard lookout and became a tourist attraction.
